BIO
Steph is a Toronto-based landscape photographer. She launched her Fine Art Photography business in 2016. Her content is inspired by the magnificent landscape of our Canadian countryside and urban centres, as well as her international travels. Steph holds a certificate in Photography from OCAD School of Continuing Studies and a Commerce degree from Queen’s University. Steph is also mother to the three willing (and now much older) subjects in the photo below.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As a landscape photographer, I approach my art as I would a meditation. I seek subjects that instill a sense of calm or contemplation and focus my mind on the present moment. My compositions are clean, often linear and focus on detailed abstractions of the subject matter. I find serenity in natural elements such as water, ice, forest and sky for their powerful yet simple beauty. Subjects that hold intrigue appeal to my sense of curiosity in their ability to tell a story. When I shoot in urban or populated settings, I look for the calm amidst the chaos, and the character exuded in the structures and common spaces. I predominantly shoot in natural light and produce work in cooler tones.
